Your tattoo will only be as good as your reference photo is, here’s some helpful tips for your next tattoo!
While my style does allow for artistic interpretation, having a strong reference photo helps me do so more accurately.
Lighting:
Natural light will always be the best option! Whether it’s outside or by a window. Try to avoid backlighting your pets as this can create harsh shadows. You want their coat color to be as true to real life as possible.
For the best tattoo references, getting on the floor/ground with your pet at eye-level is best.
Pet wont stay still?
Try a video! If you have an iPhone, turn on Live Photos— both of these options are great reference to screenshot different angles.Hold a treat or their favorite toy by the camera or make a silly noise that will grab their attention.
Reward heavily!
Your models want to get paid and they deserve compensation! Most importantly, keep it fun! Don’t make this a stressful event and try it in small doses to get your pet comfortable.I hope this helps, if you have any specific questions feel free to send an email!
